Surprise Nurse Sharks Add a Tug-of-War

As we shifted spots to explore some structure, we started hooking into nurse sharks. These bottom-dwellers aren’t the fastest fighters, but they definitely know how to dig deep and hold tight. One of the highlights of the trip was watching a first-time angler go toe-to-toe with a hefty nurse shark, eventually winning the battle with a big grin on their face.

Sharks are always a memorable catch, and nurse sharks are a reminder of the diversity of species you can encounter even when you're not far from shore.

Gag Grouper to Round It Out

To top things off, we pulled a couple of gag grouper from rocky bottom structure. Though the wind limited our range, these fish were sitting tight and hungry. Dropping live bait and heavy jigs produced results, and the thrill of pulling a grouper up from the depths never gets old.
